SCRATCH CODING: THE HUNGRY DRAGON

The Coding Sequence Progression

Reflection

This is the first time I have ever used any form of coding software, and I was shocked to find that I got quite into the process and without knowing it two and a half hours had flown by. There was an initial adjustment period to using the software when I first began experimenting with how to use it and it took me a while to figure that you needed to drag the code into the centre column to be able to create, however after working this out I was able to follow the instructions quite well. On multiple occasions throughout the activity, I would have to restart a coding sequence because I misread or missed a step. It was always easy to correct my error (however sometimes did require me to stare at it for 10 minutes to work out what I did wrong) which was helpful in teaching me that coding isn’t a rigid activity and instead allows room for flexibility and adjustment. I completed the whole activity as per the guide before deciding at the end to change the theme of my game form under the sea to dragons! I had a lot of fun creating sound effects for my dragons (if you listen closely the dragon has a slightly different sound effect for each character it eats). After completing this challenge, I have a better appreciation for why people enjoy learning about coding and the importance of integrating learning experiences such as these into the classroom.
